"Don’t fake the squirt on a nasty hurt. Filmmakers seem to be forgetting that as of late. This week I caught the Toronto (film festival) premiere of Neil Marshall’s Centurion, a violent sword ‘n’ sandal action flick with plenty of slicing, stabbings, beheadings and, um, be-armings and be-leggings. During the quick edits, the mayhem generally looks OK, however, the rest of the time the CGI blood spurts look like liquid plastic – too shiny, too watery, not the right colour. The “blood” is fake in a way that clashes with the rest of the flick’s period realism and yanks you right out of the world of the movie"
